MSGC Observatory in Bloomberg Center
This
observatory is open every Friday night (weather permitting)
to the general public, observing after monthly Tuesday open
nights at the Space Telescope Science Institute, and for
student and community tours. A total of 460 people have
visited the telescope this year.
Community Presentations
Promoting
MSGC continues in the community with the Director and Assistant
Director making presentations about MSGC programs at local
schools, NASA-related activities, and state-sponsored teacher
events. A detailed list of these presentations will be highlighted
in this year's CMIS report.
MSGC collaboration continues among its legislative contacts
with Maryland Senate and House representatives at the Federal
and State levels; and interface with JHU Federal & State
Laision representatives.
MSGC Assistant Director continues membership on Maryland
Science Center's Scientific and Educational Council.
Communication with Flavio Mendez, Director of Maryland Space
Place at MSC is on going. MSGC promotes "Teacher Thursdays",
scientific lectures held once a month for teachers.
Land,
Sea, and Space Grant Initiative continues to move forward.
MSGC has initiated steps to involve these three institutions
in a collaborative effort to examine areas where aerospace
science, math, and technology education may overlap among
the three. Several meetings have been held among designated
representatives of each organization, and a draft Memorandum
of Understanding has been approved by the Directors of all
three organizations. Further efforts are temporarily on
hold, awaiting Sea Grant's appointment of a new Associate
Director of Science.

NASA/Goddard University Programs and Education Offices
MSGC
Director, Dick Henry, continues as Co-Director of the NASA
Summer Space Academy; and Richard Faheyand Bob Gabrys are
members of the MSGC Program Committee.
Governor's Math and Science Academy
Assistance
is provided by MSGC for recruitment of speakers among its
affiliate members to address middle and high school teacher
participants of the Academy.
