Space
Science Internship Program (SSIP) for Elementary and Secondary
Mathematics, Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and
Environmental Education Teachers
MSGC has been preparing Maryland teachers for ten
years who are "MSPAP ready". SSIP contains three courses:
"Understanding
and Teaching the Solar System" (881.632);
"Understanding
and Teaching Earth Observations from Space" (881.631);
and
an
"Eight-Week Internship in Earth/Space Science"
(881.811) for which teacher participants receive nine
Hopkins graduate credits.
Recent
scientific discoveries from missions including the Hubble
Space Telescope, NASA's Earth Systems Science Enterprise,
and Discovery science missions such as Near Earth Asteroid
Rendezvous (NEAR) and Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer
(FUSE) are communicated through these programs.
