NASA Summer Aerospace Workforce
Development Research Internship Program : Daniel Senai
Project
Description:
Swales Aerospace is designing and building a set
of five satellites to support NASA's THEMIS (Time History of Events
and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms) MIDEX (Medium Explorer)
Mission. THEMIS will use a constellation of these five satellites
to study the origin and behavior of the Sun-Earth magnetospheric
interaction. This phenomenon is the cause of electrical substorms,
various effects on space weather, and ground power grid and communication
disruptions. Daniel Senai-Alemou's main task is to design and build
a high-fidelity mock-up of a THEMIS satellite, in order to analyze
the integration process of the various subsystems and scientific
instruments that it's composed of. This will allows them to prepare
for, and
tackle any possible issues that they may have with the integration
of the actual flight satellites ahead of time.
